Abstract
Turbulent work life increases employees’ commitment to work more than to organisations, which causes challenges to organisations. The current academic literature focuses on exploring this phe-nomenon from the perspective of managers, and there is scant research knowledge from the per-spective of young employees. This study aims to fill this gap by providing fresh insights into the essential commitment factors from young employees’ perspectives for enhancing organisational commitment. The research was conducted as a case study in a Finnish financial sector organisa-tion that employs many young employees. The data were gathered by applying a narrative ap-proach when seven employees working in the organisation wrote their empathy-based stories. The study concretises the main factors for enhancing organisational commitment among young em-ployees and emphasises how significant the impact can be on appreciation and adequate support at work.
